Going for an Umrah for the first time can be overwhelming. Pilgrims feel an immense pressure to do everything right. Everyone is concerned about performing the rituals perfectly and which duas to recite during them. But don’t let this stress you out. There are no specific duas or supplications to recite during the pilgrimage, but there are some recommended ones. Along with the prescribed supplications, you can also make heartfelt personal duas during your time in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. So, as you plan your Umrah journey, go through an Umrah dua guide like this one that will help you immensely during your spiritual retreat.

Why Are Duas Important During Umrah

Duas are a significant part of Umrah. The pilgrimage is not just about physical rituals: it gives you the chance to strengthen your relationship with Allah Almighty. And you cannot do it without making endless duas and supplications throughout your journey. It is a source of communication for the believers with the Almighty. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also encouraged us to make abundant dua, especially during the acts of worship. Dua during Umrah allows you to:

  • Seek Allah’s forgiveness
  • Ask for acceptance of your worship
  • Pray for your family and loved ones
  • Request guidance and protection
  • Express gratitude
  • Strengthen your faith

Umrah Dua Guide for First-Time Pilgrims

Here is a guide to the Umrah dua for first-time pilgrims.

Before Leaving for Umrah

Before you embark on your Umrah journey, make sure to ask for the security and blessings of Allah Almighty to accompany you during your journey.

Translation:

“My Lord, make it easy and do not make it difficult, and complete it with goodness.”

Dua for Travelling

Here is an authentic Sunnah travel dua that you can recite as you board your vehicle or aircraft for the journey.

Translation:

“Glory is to Him Who has subjected this to us, though we could never have controlled it ourselves. Surely to our Lord we shall return.”

After reciting this dua, you can ask Allah Almighty for ease in your journey, His protection from every hardship, and acceptance of your Umrah.

Dua When Entering the State of Ihram

As you enter the state of Ihram, recite:

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً

Translation:

“Here I am, O Allah, intending to perform Umrah.”

After making the intention, begin reciting the Talbiyah.

Talbiyah

Talbiyah is a spiritually significant supplication that will accompany you throughout your Umrah journey.

English Translation

“Here I am at Your service, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed all praise, blessings, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”

Dua When Entering Masjid al-Haram

As you enter Masjid al-Haram, recite the following supplication.

Translation

“In the name of Allah. Blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.”

Duas During Tawaf

During Tawaf, pilgrims immerse themselves in endless supplications and duas. Even though there are no fixed duas to recite during this ritual, you can make heartfelt duas and supplications to make the most of this spiritual experience. From Istigfar and Quranic supplications to personal duas, you can recite them all during Tawaf.

Translation

“Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

Dua During Sa’i

As with Tawaf, there are no compulsory duas to recite during Sa’i either. Here is a supplication that the Prophet (SAW) frequently recited while performing Sa’i.
